WhatsApp link and QR code generator

A wa.me link is a web address that opens a WhatsApp chat with your business number, optionally with a message already typed in. Enter your number and message above to get the link, a QR code to print, and the number in international format. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent to us.

TL;DR

• Format: https://wa.me/ plus your full international number as digits only, like wa.me/919876543210. No +, spaces, dashes or leading 0.
• Pre-filled message: add ?text= with the message URL-encoded. The customer sees it in their chat box and can edit it before sending.
• QR codes carry the same link, so a customer can scan a poster, a bill or a parcel and land in your chat.
• One link per source (poster, Instagram bio, invoice) tells you which one brought each chat.
• We don't check whether a number is on WhatsApp. There's no official API for it. Tap "Open in WhatsApp" to check your own.

How does a wa.me link work?#

WhatsApp's click-to-chat feature turns any number on WhatsApp into a link. When someone opens https://wa.me/<number>, WhatsApp starts a chat with that number on their phone, or on WhatsApp Web on a computer, without them saving the number first (WhatsApp Help Center, checked 28 September 2026).

Two rules decide whether the link works:

1. The number is in full international format, as digits only. Start with the country code (91 for India), then the number, and leave out the +, any spaces, dashes and brackets, and the leading 0 you dial inside India. 098765 43210 becomes 919876543210.
2. The message goes in the text parameter, URL-encoded. ?text=Hi%20there fills in "Hi there". Encoding turns spaces, &, ?, # and line breaks into codes a URL can carry, and it works for Hindi, other Indian scripts and emoji because the text is encoded as UTF-8.

The generator above handles both. It formats the number for the country you pick, catches a number with a digit missing or one too many, and encodes the message exactly as WhatsApp expects. Paste a number with its + country code and it uses that code instead of the selected country.

A wa.me link only starts the chat; the customer sends the first message. On the WhatsApp Business API, that inbound message opens a 24-hour customer service window in which you can reply freely, without an approved template (WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy, checked 28 September 2026). A click-to-chat link is the simplest way to get a customer to write first.

Where should you use a WhatsApp QR code?#

Anywhere a customer is holding a phone but not a keyboard:

• Packaging and parcels. A QR code on the box or insert card, with a message like "Hi, I have a question about my order", brings after-sales questions to WhatsApp instead of a missed call.
• The shopfront and billing counter. A standee next to the till lets walk-in customers ask about stock, delivery or repairs later without hunting for your number.
• Print and social ads. Posters, flyers, newspaper inserts and Instagram or Facebook posts can all carry the QR code; on a phone screen, use the link itself in your bio or caption.
• Visiting cards and invoices. A small code on the back of a card or at the foot of a bill turns a one-time contact into a chat.

Download the PNG for documents and social posts, and the SVG for print: it stays sharp at any size. Keep the code dark on a light background, leave the white border around it, and scan a printed test copy with your own phone before printing in bulk.

How do you write a good pre-filled message?#

The pre-filled message is the first thing your team reads, so make it do some work:

• Say who they are and what they want. "Hi, I'd like to book a trial class" is easier to answer than "Hi".
• Keep it short. One line is enough. The customer can add detail before sending, and a shorter message makes a simpler, easier-to-scan QR code.
• Use one link per campaign or source. Give the Diwali poster, the Instagram bio and the invoice footer slightly different messages ("…from your poster", "…from Instagram"). Each chat then tells you where it came from.
• Write in your customer's language. A Hindi or Hinglish message on a local flyer feels more natural than formal English, and it tells your team which language to reply in.

Why don't we check whether a number is on WhatsApp?#

Because there's no legitimate way to. Meta's WhatsApp Cloud API has no endpoint that tells you whether a phone number uses WhatsApp. The older On-Premises API had a contacts check, but Meta shut that API down on 23 October 2025 (Meta for Developers, checked 28 September 2026).

Tools that claim to check numbers in bulk do it by automating a WhatsApp account: logging a session in and looking numbers up one by one. WhatsApp's terms forbid collecting information about its users "in any impermissible or unauthorized manner", including through automated means, and say WhatsApp may disable or suspend an account that breaks them (WhatsApp Terms of Service, checked 28 September 2026). We won't do that, so we don't check numbers at all.

So this tool validates the format of a number, not whether it's on WhatsApp. To check your own number, tap Open in WhatsApp: WhatsApp opens the chat if the number is registered, and tells you if it isn't. The page never opens or fetches the link by itself.

What happens after customers start chatting?#
