If you're looking for a WATI alternative in India, compare three things: the monthly price for your team size, how many seats each plan allows, and what you pay per WhatsApp message on top. Relay starts at ₹999/month including GST (Relay pricing). WATI's cheapest subscription plan is listed at ₹2,999/month on monthly billing (WATI pricing, both checked 28 September 2026).
TL;DR
- Price: Relay's plans are ₹999, ₹2,499 and ₹5,999 per month, GST-inclusive (Relay pricing). WATI lists ₹2,999, ₹6,499 and ₹18,499 per month on monthly billing, and doesn't say whether that includes GST (WATI pricing). Both checked 28 September 2026.
- Seats: WATI Growth includes 3 users and can't add more. Relay's plans include 3, 8 and 20 seats (same sources and date).
- Message rates: WATI's Growth rate card for India is 20% above Meta's INR rates on marketing messages and 30% above on utility (both effective 1 July 2026, checked 28 September 2026). From 1 October 2026, Relay's wallet rates for messages to Indian numbers are ₹1.05 per marketing message and ₹0.17 per utility, authentication or service message, GST included. Ask any provider for its India rate card.
- WATI's strengths are real: a chatbot builder on every plan, up to unlimited integrations on Business, and a large review base.
- Switching means onboarding your number with the new provider, resubmitting templates and exporting contacts. Chat history won't come across as live conversations.
Why do Indian SMBs look for a WATI alternative?
Most teams that search for something cheaper than WATI hit one of four limits. None of them means WATI is a bad product. They're the parts of its pricing that grow faster than a small team's budget.
The Growth plan stops at 3 users
WATI's Growth plan includes 3 users, and its pricing page says "No additional users" (WATI pricing, checked 28 September 2026). A fourth agent means Pro, which is ₹6,499/month on monthly billing, includes 5 users, and adds more at ₹1,299 per user per month. Business includes 5 users and charges ₹2,199 for each extra user.
For a coaching institute with 5 counsellors, that is the difference between WATI Growth at ₹2,999 and WATI Pro at ₹6,499 a month, for the same number of people.
Message rates sit above Meta's
Meta charges per message on the WhatsApp Business Platform. Since 1 July 2025 you pay when a template message is delivered, and the rate depends on the template's category and the recipient's country (Meta pricing docs, checked 28 September 2026).
A message markup is the difference between what your provider charges per message and what Meta charges. WATI publishes its own rate card rather than passing Meta's through. Here's how its India Growth rate card compares:
| Message type (India) | Meta's INR rate, effective 1 July 2026 | WATI Growth rate card, updated 1 July 2026 | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marketing | ₹0.8631 | ₹1.03572 | +20% |
| Utility | ₹0.1150 | ₹0.14950 | +30% |
| Authentication | ₹0.1150 | ₹0.14950 | +30% |
Sources: Meta's INR rate card, linked from Meta's pricing page, and WATI's India Growth rate card, linked from its pricing page. Both checked 28 September 2026. Neither document says whether GST is included, so both columns are compared as listed. WATI's rate card says Pro and Business get "an additional discount on top of this".
A D2C brand sending 10,000 marketing messages a month to Indian numbers would pay ₹8,631 at Meta's rate and ₹10,357.20 at WATI's Growth rate. That's ₹1,726.20 more each month, before GST.
Meta's rules also change on 1 October 2026. Service messages, meaning free-form replies inside the 24-hour customer service window, start being charged at the utility rate (₹0.115 in India) after a free tier of 1,000 per business phone number each month. Utility templates sent inside that window also stop being free (Meta pricing docs, checked 28 September 2026). Any markup applies to more of your messages from then on. Automation and AI are metered
WATI includes a chatbot builder on all plans, with 1,000, 2,000 and 5,000 free automation triggers a month on Growth, Pro and Business. AI Co-pilot credits are 250, 500 and 1,500 a month. On Pro, WATI's "Astra" AI agents are an add-on, "priced separately" (WATI pricing, checked 28 September 2026). A busy chatbot can run past the included triggers, and extra triggers and credits are sold as add-ons.
Some reviewers report billing and cancellation friction
WATI's pricing FAQ says there are no cancellation fees and you can cancel at any time. It also says it doesn't refund payments already made for a subscription or credits (WATI pricing, checked 28 September 2026).
Reviews are mixed. On Trustpilot, WATI has a TrustScore of 3.0 from 273 reviews. Several reviews from August and September 2026 describe difficulty cancelling, charges after asking to cancel, and slow support replies (Trustpilot, checked 28 September 2026). On Capterra, it's rated 4.6 out of 5 from 207 reviews (Capterra, checked 28 September 2026). If you're leaving, cancel in writing and keep the confirmation.
What does WATI do well?
Be fair to what you're leaving. WATI is an established platform, and several things it does are hard to match:
- A mature chatbot builder on every plan, with advanced chatbots and forms on Pro.
- Integrations: 2 select commerce integrations on Growth, 5 including HubSpot on Pro, and unlimited including Salesforce on Business.
- Omnichannel inbox: WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and a website widget in one place.
- A ₹999 one-time plan for businesses that only send bulk campaigns. You get the ₹999 back as message credits, valid for 3 months.
- Coexistence: its pricing page advertises syncing the WhatsApp Business App with WATI.
(All from WATI pricing, checked 28 September 2026.) If your team depends on Salesforce sync or Instagram automation, weigh that before you move.
Is Relay cheaper than WATI for a small team?
On subscription, yes, at every team size up to 20 seats. Relay's per-message rates are in the table too. Here's the comparison.
How we normalised GST: Relay's prices include GST. WATI's pricing page doesn't say whether its prices include GST. The table uses WATI's listed prices as they are, which is the reading most favourable to WATI. If GST is added on top, WATI's figures rise by 18%, so ₹2,999 becomes ₹3,538.82.
| WATI (India, monthly billing) | Relay | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry subscription plan | Growth, ₹2,999/mo (₹2,199/mo billed annually) | Starter, ₹999/mo incl. GST |
| Mid plan | Pro, ₹6,499/mo (₹4,899/mo billed annually) | Growth, ₹2,499/mo incl. GST |
| Top listed plan | Business, ₹18,499/mo (₹14,799/mo billed annually) | Business, ₹5,999/mo incl. GST |
| Seats per plan | Growth 3, no extra users; Pro 5, extras ₹1,299/user/mo; Business 5, extras ₹2,199/user/mo | 3 / 8 / 20, no add-on seats |
| Message charges | WATI rate card, 20–30% above Meta on Growth in India | Prepaid wallet; from 1 Oct 2026, ₹1.05 per marketing message and ₹0.17 per utility, authentication or service message, GST included |
| Chatbot builder | All plans | Visual flow builder on all plans (in beta) |
| AI replies | AI Co-pilot credits on all plans; Astra AI agents a paid add-on on Pro | AI drafts on all plans (1,000 / 3,000 / 8,000 credits a month); auto-reply bot and knowledge base on Business |
| Free trial | 7 days | Yes, no card required |
Relay's figures come from Relay's pricing, the flows docs and the AI assistant docs, checked 28 September 2026.
What this means in practice:
- 5 people: WATI Pro at ₹6,499 against Relay Growth at ₹2,499, so ₹4,000 a month less.
- 8 people: WATI Pro plus 3 extra users is ₹10,396 a month on monthly billing. Relay Growth covers 8 seats at ₹2,499.
- A real estate office with 15 agents fits in Relay Business, at ₹5,999 with 20 seats.
Relay has limits too. Seats are capped per plan, so a fourth person on Starter means moving to Growth. The AI auto-reply bot needs Business. Price a high-volume campaign calendar at Relay's per-message rates above before you move it.
What should you check before switching WhatsApp platforms?
This checklist applies to any provider, not just WATI.
- Number portability. Your WhatsApp Business number belongs to your business. Meta is rolling out a new account model, generally available from 23 September 2026 and reaching all businesses by mid-October 2026. Under it, a business already onboarded with one partner can onboard with another using the same number. Each partner gets its own messaging account with its own templates and billing (Meta: account model, checked 28 September 2026). Ask both providers which path applies to your account on your switch date.
- Template re-approval. Templates belong to the messaging account, per the same Meta page, so a new provider starts without them. Budget time to resubmit. Meta usually reviews a template within 24 hours (Relay docs: templates).
- Chat history. WATI exports chats as a .zip of .txt files, one per contact (WATI help, checked 28 September 2026). Relay doesn't import those files as conversations. Treat old chats as an archive, not something you'll reply from.
- Team retraining. Inbox, assignment and chatbot logic all look different. Book hands-on time with each team, not just a quick email.
- Contract and notice terms. Check your renewal date and how cancellation must be requested. WATI doesn't refund subscription or credit payments, so switch close to renewal.
- Coexistence. If your number is still live in the WhatsApp Business App on a phone, check that the new platform supports coexistence onboarding. Otherwise Meta requires you to delete the WhatsApp Business App account on that number first (Meta docs, checked 28 September 2026). In Relay this is available on request, during onboarding with our team. Read how coexistence works first.
How do you migrate from WATI without breaking campaigns?
A migration checklist for a WATI alternative switch in India:
- Export your data. Download contacts from WATI with Export to CSV (WATI help). Export chats from Settings → Import/Export Chats. Export templates as JSON from Campaign → Template Messages as a reference copy (WATI help, both checked 28 September 2026).
- Import contacts into Relay. Upload a CSV with a
phonecolumn.name, email, companyandtagsare optional (Relay docs: contacts). - Plan template resubmission. Submit your most-used templates first: order updates for a D2C brand, appointment reminders for a clinic, batch timings for a coaching institute. Wait for Approved before scheduling anything.
- Pick a cutover window. Don't switch mid-campaign. Finish or pause scheduled broadcasts in WATI, and avoid a sale week or a travel agency's peak booking weekend.
- Connect and test. Connect the number in Relay under Settings → WhatsApp (Relay docs: connect WhatsApp). Send a test message from your own phone and confirm it lands in the inbox before you point ads, QR codes or website buttons at the new setup.
- Rebuild your chatbot. Recreate your WATI chatbot as a flow (Relay docs: flows) and test each branch.
- Cancel last. Once replies, templates and campaigns work, cancel WATI in writing.

Which WATI alternative in India fits your business?
Stay on WATI if you rely on Salesforce sync, Instagram and TikTok automation, or its ready integrations. Consider Relay, the WhatsApp Business platform for Indian SMBs, if your pain is seat caps and subscription cost: a 5-person clinic front desk, an 8-person coaching admissions team or a 15-agent real estate office pays less each month for the same headcount.

Frequently asked questions
- Is Relay cheaper than WATI?
- On subscription, yes. Relay's plans are ₹999, ₹2,499 and ₹5,999 per month, including GST. WATI's India pricing page lists ₹2,999, ₹6,499 and ₹18,499 per month on monthly billing, or ₹2,199, ₹4,899 and ₹14,799 per month billed annually, without saying whether GST is included (checked 28 September 2026). On WhatsApp message charges, each bills from its own per-message rate card. From 1 October 2026, Relay's wallet rates for messages to Indian numbers are ₹1.05 per marketing message and ₹0.17 per utility, authentication or service message, GST included.
- How many users does WATI's Growth plan include?
- WATI's Growth plan includes 3 users, and its pricing page says "No additional users", so a fourth agent means moving to Pro. Pro and Business include 5 users each, with extra users at ₹1,299 and ₹2,199 per user per month respectively, as listed on WATI's India pricing page on 28 September 2026.
- Does WATI charge more than Meta's rate for WhatsApp messages?
- Yes, on the Growth plan. WATI's Growth rate card for India (updated 1 July 2026) lists ₹1.03572 per marketing message and ₹0.14950 per utility or authentication message. Meta's own INR rate card, effective 1 July 2026, lists ₹0.8631 and ₹0.1150. That is 20% and 30% above Meta. WATI says Pro and Business get an additional discount on those rates.
- Can I move my WhatsApp Business number from WATI to another provider?
- Yes. The number belongs to your business, not to the provider. Meta is rolling out a new account model (generally available from 23 September 2026, reaching all businesses by mid-October 2026) under which a number already on the platform can be onboarded with a different partner. Each partner gets its own messaging account with its own templates and billing, so plan to resubmit your templates for approval.
- Can I take my WATI chat history and contacts with me?
- Partly. WATI's help centre says contacts can be exported with an "Export to CSV" button, and chats can be exported as a .zip of .txt files, one per contact, on Growth, Pro and Business. Relay imports contacts from a CSV with a phone column. It does not import WATI's .txt chat files as conversations, so keep that export as your archive.
- Can I keep using the WhatsApp Business App on my phone after switching?
- Only if the new platform supports Meta's coexistence onboarding, which keeps the number live in the WhatsApp Business App while a platform uses it through the API. In Relay, coexistence onboarding is available on request, during onboarding with our team. It is not a self-serve switch today.
